Lake Cities Chamber of Commerce - Award Winner Cheryl McLain
Cheryl McClain & Michelle McLaren

Michelle McLaren of the Lake Cities Lions Clubs International honored Cheryl Seelhorst McClain, volunteer extraordinaire, with the Lions Club Boast Award for one of the communities’ best. Cheryl’s volunteerism in the Lake Cities area is so extensive that the list literally goes on and on! She volunteers during the Lake Cities cleanup days, works with Girl Scouts troops and Kids & Cops, assists with both the 4th of the July and the Mardi Gras celebrations, helps with the holiday tree lightings, the VFW karaoke nights, and the Senior Christmas Dinner at the Methodist Church, which she has done for years and years preparing and serving food.

Cheryl has also worked at the local animal shelter making sure that they had the improvements that they needed, volunteering at their functions, and helping them bring in money. In the school district, she has been a PTA President or Vice President for 8 years, she works with the FAA Booster Club, and she’s been a blood drive organizer for Carter Blood Care.

Additionally, Cheryl works with the Lake Cities Seniors trying to get procurement grants from Walmart to make sure that the seniors have enough money to keep the group going. She works on both their Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas party each year, making sure that the elementary school kids have their handmade cards ready to give to the seniors as well as getting them to the seniors, which event is totally adorable. She also talks to local restaurants for sponsorships for lunches for the Lake Cities seniors.

The Tocker Foundation got a donation of $55,000 to the Lake Cities Library though Cheryl’s efforts. She is always at the chamber events and on all kinds of committees, including the chamber’s current Events Committee. She is a member of the Lake Dallas Council putting in hundreds and hundreds of hours with lots and lots of meetings. This year she started taking over the Trunk or Treat event for Lake Cities and organized it beautifully. We had over 1,000 people at Trunk or Treat this year, which just goes to show you what her efforts have accomplished! Cheryl is also council liaison on the Parks and Rec Board and helps to make sure that Lake Dallas is always beautiful. Her husband, Richard, whom she married 36 years ago, says their greatest accomplishments are their two sons, Justin and Preston, who are both married, and their 4 grandchildren.
